Why it matters now
CMMC reached the subcontract
Since November 2025, DFARS 252.204-7021 requires primes to confirm a subcontractor's CMMC status before award when FCI or CUI is involved.
Small-business subs can request a rating
Under 13 CFR 125.3, a prime with a subcontracting plan must provide a past-performance rating to a small-business first-tier sub within 15 days of a request.
Audits ask for records, not promises
Contracting officers, DCAA and your own compliance team need a document trail. Spreadsheets do not survive an audit.
